I am a recent colledge graduate. I have worked as an L.V.N, a part-time seasonal sales associate for Walden Books, a stay-at-home mom, a Volunteer in Public Schools (VIPS), a mentor /tutor for 4th and 5th grade students, and a freelance writer of mostly juvenile nonfiction. While being a stay-at-home mom, I took a writing course, learned to use the computer, and learned to sew. All of these experiences have equipped me with a vast array of skills and a good knowledge base on which I am continually building.
I began college in 2002, graduating, Suma Cum Laude, from Houston Community College in Spring 2005, with an Associate in Arts. The courses I took included: Media and Society, Print and Digital Media Writing and Feature FIlm Script Writing. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from University of Houston, Jack Valenti School of Communications in December 2008, with a Bachelors of Communications - Journalism, with a Broadcast Production specialty. Courses taken included: Introduction to Communications Theory, Editing for Print and Digital Media, Electronic News Writing, Fundamentals of TV Production, TV Production I and II, Communications Research Methods, Nonlinear Editing, Electronic Field Production, Anthropology of Film, Communications Law and Ethics, Propaganda and Mass Communications and the Communications Internship Program. I am adding to my education through University of Houston, Continuing Education Program by taking Webpage Creation and Technical Writing courses.
I spent the summer of 2008 Interning at KUHT-TV, Houston PBS and gained valuable production experience and a production credit for the documentary special "Fuel for Thought" which aired on KUHT-TV in October and again in November 2008. I also produced a Promotional Video for the Houston Tinplate Operators Society as well as writing a few Operator's Manuals for this train club. I am currently looking for employment in the Houston area in either publishing, broadcast, film, or corporate communications and will continue writing freelance, as my schedule allows.
